Albany Park – 60625!!!

Recognized as one of the most diverse Zip Codes in the United States – there are over 100 nationalities represented within my neighborhood. But what is it I like about Albany Park???

There are a number of things…

Easy to get EVERYWHERE… From my home near Lawrence & Pulaski I can walk to the Brown Line or Blue Line in 15 minutes and get to O’Hare or any part of the city easily. From the Mayfair Metra Station you can get Downtown comfortably or take a trip out to the Northwest suburbs. Drive East on Montrose Avenue and you will be at Montrose Harbor in 25 minutes (a little longer in summertime when EVERYONE is going there). And it’s easy to get to nearby lakefront towns like Evanston and Waukegan to enjoy Lake Michigan on a Summer Day. Finally, you can hop on the Kennedy Expressway and get to the suburbs or South Side of the City conveniently… Transportation is King and from Albany Park you can get everywhere!

FOOD! So many restaurants to choose from… Ruk Sushi… Noon-O-Kabob… Taste of Thai Town… Kalbi Korean BBQ… PIZZA… There are many choices in the Albany Park area. And the close proximity to North Center, Logan Square, Lincoln Square, Jefferson Park, etc… ensures there is a wealth of wonderful restaurants that are easy to get to or get delivery from. Whatever your palate desires, you can find it within a short walk, ride, or Grubhub order of Albany Park. Albany Park is also home to Koreatown – between Kedzie & Pulaski on Lawrence… many restaurants and shops to be found that cater to the many Koreans in the area.

Parks & recreation… There are 13 parks operated by the Chicago Park District within the Albany Park area… and there are many more within a short walk or ride of the neighborhood. Gompers Park and Eugene Field Park hug the banks of the North Branch of the Chicago River where it intersects Foster & Pulaski near the Bohemian National Cemetery. The North Park Village Nature Center is just to the north of that along Pulaski Rd. With so many green spaces and playgrounds it’s easy to find a spot to relax and enjoy a Little League game, splash in some water, or just have a picnic and soak up the sun.

Culture… The Albany Park Cultural Center on Kimball is in the middle of the neighborhood and provides the community with a number of services and fun activities. There are a number of theaters along Irving Park Road – and in Lincoln Square there can be found the German Cultural Center (DANK Haus – and the Old Town School of Folk Music – These are two of my favorite places nearby. In the summertime, there are countless summer festivals in the area. From Ribfest in North Center to Maifest in Lincoln Square – and many more all summer long – there is plenty to do and see to get in touch with local culture. And being so close to public transit, it’s very easy to get downtown for the big festivals such as Blues Fest, Taste of Chicago, and the Kristkindlmarkt at Daley Plaza in the Winter Time (one of my favorites!).

Real Estate… You have all this going on and nearby, it surely must cost an arm and a leg to live there, right? Not necessarily! We are close to neighborhood where there are multi-million dollar homes on every street – yet the median sale price in Albany Park is under $300,000. Now, to be fair – many of the homes listed under that are condos or homes that will go through some rehab before then being sold… but there are bargains to be found. Within 3 blocks of my home there are very beautiful homes that were fully renovated or new construction – all listed between $400k – $450k. Not bad considering how expensive homes are just 5-10 minutes east of here.
